Activities and things to do in Cape Town

The Cape Peninsula with the vibey "Mother City" Cape Town is well known for its breathtaking landscapes and invites to a lot of activities and entertainment.

It might be the friendly people, the amazing beauty of nature or maybe it’s the excellent food or wine? Perhaps the local music scene or the nightlife? Or is it the authentic charm and international flair?

Who knows?! All we know is: whoever visited Cape Town, wants to come back one day!

We selected a few of the Cape Town highlights for you:

Twelve Apostel

Table Mountain, Lions Head, Signal Hill: a hikers and climbers dream! Discover the Cape Townian mountains and their natural beauty. Special Tip: the fullmoon picnic on Lions Head. There you can enjoy a small picnic, view stunning a sunset, and watch the full moon rise above the panorama of Cape Town. Amazing!

Extreme Sports

Are you a bit more of an adrenalin junkie? No problem! Paragliding, skydiving, abseiling and mountain bike tours are also offered in and around Cape Town and can be booked on-site with certified companies.

Robben Island

Going on a trip to Robben Island means experiencing a part of South Africas history. The boat leaves from the the popular V&A waterfront and takes you to the prison island, where the legendary Nelson Mandela was detained for 18 years. Former prisoners lead the visitors through the premises and tell their stories. Tickets should be booked a few days in advance, as the tours are quickly sold out.

Cape Point Tour

A day tour classic! You´ll follow the famous Chapmans Peak Drive along one of the most stunning coast roads. On your way to the Cape of Good Hope with its amazing views you can stop at an ostrich farm and maybe you´ll even meet some baboons on the road. And of course, you shouldn´t miss "the Boulders", a penguin colony near the pittoresk harbour city Simons Town. In Kalk Bay, just a bit further down the road, you´ll find inviting little antique, book and fashion shops. After all that you could maybe have a coffee at the long, white Muizenberg beach and watch the surfers or even better: take a lesson and join them! On your way home after a long exciting day you will surely find a cosy fish restaurant along your way and end the trip with a perfect dinner.

Garden Route

The Garden Route with endless, white beaches, impressive mountain chains and lots of scenic harbour cities streches from Hermanus up the East Coast to Port Elizabeth and is well prepared for its visitors. You can either enjoy climbing, bungee jumping, canoeing, a game drive or for a surf or simply enjoy the beautiful landscapes and the culinary highlights.

Safaris

We believe, you cannot leave Arfica without having seen the "big five". The Addo-Elephant-Park for example is highly recommandable and can be easily combined with a Garden Route trip. But there are also smaller game drives very close to Cape Town, that surely are worth a day trip. Ask for our recommandations!

Whale Watching

From June on it´s whale season in Cape Town! If you also want to see the peaceful giants close up, you can book a boat tour from Hermanus or Gaans Baai. With a bit of luck you will also meet some dolphins and sharks on your adventure - impressive!

Namaqualand

If you are planning to visit the Cape already in springtime, you should plan a trip to the Namaqualand ("land without water"). From mid August til mid October the usually dry desert is in full flower and shows its most beautiful side.
